Giving people more awareness and control on their spent time online and focusing on digital health, Facebook rolled out a challenging feature that shows statistics about user’s time on the platform which could help remind users to take breaks from spending too much time on Facebook.
“Your Time on Facebook” feature is rolling out around the world, and it is designed to help you manage your time spent on Facebook, there is a particular dashboard illustrating how many minutes you have spent on Facebook’s app on current device every day and it calculates the average of weekly spent time. Warning! The numbers might be scary.
Users can not see how much time they spent on each kind of different activities specifically, by the mean there is no segmentation which provide much clearer view of how they spent their time on Facebook, whether it is on browsing the News Feed or watching Stories, exploring photos or creating posts and comments or any other kinds of other Facebook’s activities.
Using this feature, daily time limitations can be set from 15 minutes to 8 hours, by Facebook’s users and if you think you are spending too much on Facebook you can allow the reminder to stop you, with alarm warning your limited set time is over. The option does not include force stops and as an alert, it just notifies and warns you.
What are the “your time on Facebook” limitations?
First of all if users use multiple device to log into Facebook, it would be difficult to calculate the whole time spent on Facebook while using each of different devices, because the feature only shows the spent time on current device not all the logged in ones.
Also the feature is only focused on mobile users and it is not available to users who access Facebook via desktop computer. So if you are logged in at work or on your personal PCs there is no tracking that inform you how much time you have been spending.
