Telegram messenger has become a competitor to WhatsApp and many people believe Telegram is a threatening rival for WhatsApp for good reasons. WhatsApp boasts a user base of 1 billion active users. Undoubtedly, Telegram hasn’t managed to reach that number yet but it is attracting many users from around the world day after day. You might be among the ones who are not using Telegram or you have just started using it. In fact, Telegram is an application full of customizable features that you might not be aware of. Telegram two-step verification
One of Telegram features for security of your personal data is the two-step verification. Telegram two-step verification feature adds an extra layer of security to your account and you can make sure it would be impossible to track Telegram messages. Telegram is a multi-platform application which means you can have one account on multiple devices. This is of course a great feature, but it will cause some problems as people might be able to access your account if you are away from one of your devices. The two-step verification feature makes sure no one will be able to access your account as long as they don’t have your cloud password.
In order to activate Telegram two-step verification launch Telegram and navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security > Two-Step Verification and define a password.
Telegram Passcode Lock

The passcode lock feature can be extremely handy in cases when you have to hand over your phone to someone. You can lock your Telegram app so that they won’t be able to sneak on your messages.
In order to set the paascode, launch Telegram and go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Passcode Lock and define a password. You can choose to lock Telegram whenever you want to close the app or you can choose to leave it unlocked.
Telegram Active Sessions
This is one of the best Telegram features for security. Telegram active sessions allows you to see on which devices your Telegram account is active. You may see your phone device and your computer if you use Telegram desktop version. But if anybody else is using your Telegram account, you will be able to see it in your active sessions. If you wish to keep your personal data on your Telegram account secure, you are advised to check or active sessions regularly and end the sessions which does not belong to your own devices.
To do so, launch Telegram application and go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Active Sessions and tap on Terminate all other sessions if you notice anything suspicious.
Telegram Secret Chats
The greatest Telegram features for privacy is definitely Telegram Secret Chat feature. In secret chat feature all the messages are protected by end-to-end encryption. This means that only the two ends of the conversation are able to view the messages. You can also set a self-destruct timer for messages. In addition, you will get notified if a screenshot is taken from the messages and messages cannot be forwarded. Here is how you can initiate a secret chat:
- Launch Telegram application
- Tap on the message icon on top right corner
- Tap on New Secret Chat
- Choose the contact you would like to have a secret chat with

- Tap on their name to open their profile
- Tap on Start Secret Chat
Telegram Last Seen
Much like WhatsApp, Telegram features also allows you to specify who can view your last seen time. You have a variety of options you can choose from. Also, you can set exceptions for the rules that you define.
Launch Telegram application and go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Last Seen. You can choose to make your last seen time for Everybody, for your Contacts only, or Nobody. You can also add exceptions.
Manage Telegram Media Download
Telegram features allow you to send and receive photos, videos and GIFs along with regular messages. But if you want to cut down on your data usage, you can manage Telegram media download permissions. With this regard, Telegram offers you a variety of data management options. You can choose to auto-download different types of media (photos, videos, etc) on different types of internet connections (cellular or WiFi). You can also choose to disable auto media download completely.
Extra options include enabling or disabling “Autoplay GIFs” and “Save to Gallery”. You will find all these options in Settings > Automatic Media download.
Regret sending a message on Telegram?
There are times when you send a particular message or photo to someone that you later regret sending it. Well, you no longer need to worry as Telegram keeps this covered! Just long press on the message you have sent and tap on “Edit“. You can now rewrite your message or correct any typing error. But if you want to get rid of the message for good, long tap on it and select “Delete“. This will delete the message you have sent both for you and your contact. Remember you have to do this before they see the message!
One of the greatest Telegram features is Telegram bots. Telegram bots not be as smart as Google Assistant or other chat bots but it actually offers a number of great features. One of the most useful Telegram bots is Telegram poll bot which allows group admins to put something on vote.
