There of course some different methods for blocking inappropriate websites for kids. You can restrict internet access through your router or you can use a parental control application. But this Google Chrome integrated feature is among the most effective ones. Read this article to find out how you can enable Chrome supervised user .
How to use Chrome supervised user for parental control
Google now offers a sort of built-in parental control which allows parents to monitor their kids’ internet usage. It works by allowing parents to create separate users for their kids and monitor them from a parent account.
‘Supervised user’ is not activated in Chrome by default, so you have to activate it before you proceed. To do so, just type in ‘chrome://flags’ in your location bar and press enter. Now, scroll down and find ‘Enable Supervised Users’ and enable it. Relaunch your browser and you are all set to start.
Log in with your own account
Before you start to set up separate account on Chrome, you need to log in with your own Google Account, which is the parent account.
If you don’t know which account is logged in to the browser, click on Menu button (three horizontal lines on top-right corner of screen) and find ‘Signed in as’. You may need to sing out and then sign in with your own account.
Create New Supervised User Accounts
In order to create supervised account for your kids you need to follow these steps:
- Open Chrome Settings from the Menu button
- Click on Add User under the Users menu
- From the appeared page you can select the option to make it a Supervised User account
Manage account restrictions online
In order to create and manage account restrictions visit Google’s management tool at chrome.com/manage. Sign in with your parent account and then you can modify all the permissions and restrictions. You can as well see all browser history of your user accounts.
When your child visits a blocked site, an option as ‘Request permission’ appears. You see the requested permissions from your own account and grant or deny it. You can do it even when you are not at home and from any device.
Of course, this feature of Google Chrome may not be the perfect monitoring tool, but of course it can safeguard your kids’ online activity to some degree.
